A new speech model for dictation, smaller updates on a Mac, and fixes.
Dictation with a new speech model
Dictation uses a new speech model that runs on your computer. Your voice does not leave your computer. Dictation is in English only; other languages are no longer available. One dictation can be up to 10 minutes long.
How to use it
- Click the microphone in the message box, and talk.
- Or press Control+Option+Space on a Mac, or Ctrl+Alt+Space on Windows, to open Quick ask already listening.
- The first dictation after KChat starts can take a few seconds more while the speech model loads.
Smaller updates
This update is larger than usual, because the speech model is now part of KChat. On a Mac, later updates can be smaller. After an update, KChat frees space it no longer needs.

Fixes for presentations and downloads, and other improvements.
KChat 0.2.4
26 October 2026 · Mac and Windows
Fixes for finding and using pictures with Find files.
A picture you add from Find files reaches the AI
Add a found picture to a chat with Add to chat, @ or Files, and the AI now sees it and can answer about it. The picture also shows in the chat.
Picture searches find the right pictures
Asking for "pictures of panthers" or "photos that say Karya" now finds the pictures that match, not every photo in your Pictures folder. Screenshots count as pictures.
KChat says when pictures are not ready yet
KChat gets pictures ready after your documents. On some computers it does this only while the computer is plugged in and not in use. If you look for pictures before then, KChat tells you how many are ready.
KChat 0.2.3
25 October 2026 · Mac and Windows
Find files on your computer by describing them, versions and review for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Google in chat and workflows, and a clearer chat.
Find files on your computer
Describe a file, for example "the electricity bill from September", and KChat finds it on your computer by what it is about, by date and by folder. It works on your computer. By default, KChat asks before the words of a found file go to the AI. You can choose Allow in this chat or Always allow. A workflow you run uses its files without asking each time.
How to use it
- Open Settings, then Find files, and press Turn on.
- KChat downloads what it needs to search, once (about 865 MB), and gets your files ready, documents first. You can pause it.
- It starts with your home folder. Under Folders, use Leave out a folder… or Add a folder or drive… to change that.
- Ask in a chat, or type @ in the message box or in Quick ask.
- Open Files, then On this computer, to browse, find similar files and duplicates.
Sort files into folders
Ask KChat to put files in groups by topic, month, year or kind, then copy each group into a folder. Your files stay where they are.
How to use it
- With Find files on, ask in a chat, for example "sort my invoices by month".
- Check the groups, then press Copy into folders.
- Press Pick a folder and choose where the copies go.
Versions and review for Office files
When KChat changes a file, the earlier versions stay. With review on, you see the changes KChat made to a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file and keep or undo each one it can show. KChat tells you when it cannot show or undo a change, for example in a Word file that already has tracked changes or comments.
How to use it
- Open a file KChat made or changed, then Versions, to open, download or restore an earlier one.
- To review changes, open Settings, Chat, Files, and turn on Review KChat's changes to files.
- After KChat changes a file, press Review changes, then accept or reject each change.
- Under Versions, press Compare to see what changed in a version, or Compare with another file to pick another file of the same kind.
- For a Word file, choose Download, then Download with tracked changes, to see the changes in Word.
Send email from Gmail, use the Google Drive files you pick, save files to Drive and add rows to Google Sheets, in chat and in workflows. Every send or change waits for your yes, and KChat shows what it will send. For many rows, a workflow shows the first ones and how many more there are. KChat does not read your Gmail.
How to use it
- Open Settings, then Connected apps, and press Connect beside Google.
- Press Continue to Google, then sign in and allow what KChat asks for.
- In a chat, ask KChat to send an email or to add rows to a sheet.
- To attach a Drive file, press Add files or a workflow in the message box, then From Google Drive.
Clearer replies and files
Replies can show diagrams, comparison cards, key figures and charts. Uploaded Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open in the viewer beside the chat, and PDFs open in KChat's own page viewer. In an Excel file, select a cell to see its formula, and switch between Data and Charts. Copy an answer with its tables, or download a table as an Excel file. Chat text is larger, and each message shows when it was sent.
Web searches you approve
Turn on Ask before each web search in Settings, Chat. Before each search, KChat shows the search words, and you can change or stop them. It is off at first.
Quick ask and workflows
In Quick ask, drag over any part of the screen to attach it, and send to a new chat or one of your last five chats. A new key opens it ready to find a file: Control+Option+Shift+Space on a Mac, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Space on Windows. Workflows can start from an empty canvas, find their input files from a description, take only new or changed files, and make PDFs that follow a sample layout.
KChat in the menu bar and the tray
The KChat menu shows the workflows that run and the ones that wait for you. Click the KChat icon in the Mac menu bar, or right-click it in the Windows tray, then choose a run to open it.
Help, privacy and updates
- Help has What's new and Request a feature or report a bug.
- After an update, a note links to this page.
- A new install starts with Send crash reports on. Turn it off in Settings, Privacy. An update keeps your choice.
Removed
- Email by password, Slack, Notion, Airtable, GitHub and the other app connections, with their saved details.
- A workflow that started on new email by password is kept, but does not start by itself. A workflow with a removed step says which step to delete or replace.
- Microsoft 365 comes in a later update.
Fixed
- Clearer greys in light and dark, and readable file names everywhere.
- KChat says within seconds when you are offline, and Try again works when the connection is back.
- Many small fixes to chat, files, workflows and notifications, on Mac and on Windows.
KChat 0.2.2
13 October 2026 · Mac and Windows
The biggest update so far: workflows, Quick ask, talking instead of typing, projects with their own files, and a new look.
Workflows: hand KChat a job you repeat
Describe the job. KChat builds a workflow from tested steps: it reads your files, checks every row, and makes Excel, Word and PDF files and email drafts.
How to use it
- In a new chat, describe the job, for example "Every morning I type bank statements into Excel".
- Answer KChat's questions: what you give it, what must come out, and one example file.
- Pick one of the ways KChat offers, or type your own.
- Check the result from your example. Say yes, or say what to change.
Workflows that start by themselves
A workflow can run when a file lands in a folder, at a set time, or when an email arrives. It keeps working while the window is closed.
How to use it
- Open the workflow.
- Click Start by itself beside Run.
- Choose a folder, a time, or an inbox.
Quick ask
A small KChat bar opens over any app. Ask a question without switching windows.
How to use it
- Press Option+Space on a Mac, or Alt+Space on Windows.
- Type or talk, then press Return.
- To send a picture of your screen with the question, press Option+Shift+Space (Alt+Shift+Space).
Talk instead of typing
Dictation runs on your computer, in a chat and in Quick ask. Your voice does not leave your computer.
How to use it
- Click the microphone in the message box, and talk.
- Your words appear in the message. Edit them, then send.
Projects with instructions and files
Write instructions once, and KChat follows them in every chat of the project. Add files, and KChat looks in them and names the file it used.
How to use it
- Choose a project at the top of the sidebar.
- Click the line under the message box to add instructions and files.
Search everything
One search finds chats, words inside messages, projects, workflows, files and settings.
How to use it
- Press Command+K on a Mac, or Ctrl+K on Windows.
- Type a few words, and open a result.
Your files and your privacy
The Files page shows every file: search, open, download or delete one, and go back to the chat it came from. The Privacy page shows what leaves your computer, and lets you clear or export what is stored.
How to use it
- Click Files in the sidebar.
- For privacy, open Settings, then Privacy.
A new look, and updates inside KChat
Light and dark, glass surfaces and six window colours. Updates now download inside KChat, and you choose when to restart.
How to use it
- When an update is ready, click the update button at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Restart KChat once to finish.
Fixed
- Windows: a coloured band sat on top of the window. The window colour fills the whole window again.
- Windows 10: the Quick ask bar sat in a square dark box. It has round corners now.
- Small fixes to how KChat looks and works, on Mac and on Windows.
